Congress has returned from recess and we are expecting a number of
important votes in the next week to 10 days.

The Interior Appropriations Bill could be on the House floor this week. A
series of amendments and anti-environmental riders are expected. See
Sierra Club Action Daily for details. We are phonebanking in select House
districts and expect to do accountability ads in the wake of the votes.
Field staff have contacted affected chapters.

There could be a vote on "NAFTA for Africa" this Wednesday. See Sierra
Club Action Daily for details. This vote is very important, as its outcome
could determine if the Administration tries to bring back Fast Track
legislation in this Congress.

We expect a Sense of the Senate vote on auto efficiancy (CAFE) standards
next week. Again, check the Action Daily for details. We will be phoning
and running radio ads in key states to help influence the vote. Field
staff have consulted relevant chapters.

The Board of Directors, Sierra Club Foundation Trustees, and senior staff
will be on retreat in Washington state July 14-18.
