You're invited to learn how to benefit from Community Sustainable Agriculture

February's cloudy skies, biting wind and gray landscape make it hard to
imagine gardens teeming with vegetables and flowers. However, a
presentation on Community Sustinable Agriculture co-hosted by Environmental
Advocates and the Iowa City Public Library can help you envision -- and
make plans to receive -- such bounty. The presentation will be held at 7
p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St.,
Meeting Room A.

Community Sustainable Agriculture (CSA) involves agreements between people
in communities near small, family-owned farms and the growers on those
farms. Participants pay in advance for a season's worth of high-quality,
fresh vegetables and other items such as herbs, breads, eggs and flowers.
The CSA benefits small growers by allowing them to diversify and directly
manage their production. The CSA concept originated in Japan, where the
agreements are called teikei or "food with the farmer's face on it."

Scheduled presenters include Laura Krouse of Abbe Hills Farm CSA in Mt.
Vernon; Glenda McDowell of Children's Garden Farm; and Susan
Zacharakis-Jutz of Local Harvest CSA. The event will be broadcast live and
re-broadcast in the coming months.
