Howdy,
The House's "Disturbing Hunters" bill and the companion bill in the
Senate SF 2300 are
eligible for debate tomorrow. I don't know if they will be debated
or not. Here is a copy of my letter I sent to my representative Dick
Myers and his response to me. Seems many people are not fully aware
of what the bill involves. I am told that Iowa currently has a
provision which states that disturbing those who are hunting is
unlawful, so why do we need a duplicate law?
Rex

Rex - Thank you for your message - I will vote against this bill on
the floor. Not many of us are aware of what this law would do and I
will help spread the message. I did not study it until I got your
message. Thank you very much - Dick Myers

Dear Representative Myers,

HF2163 is a really strange bill for our legislators and senators to
be promoting. In a time when Republicans are pushing for less
government, they are now trying to create more.

HF2163 l would in effect allow only hunters, fishermen, and or
trappers to use our public lands and it can interfere with our
enjoyment of our private lands as well. This bill could pose
unnecessary problems for a variety of people like: hikers and bikers,
prairie seed gatherers, birders, etc. in the future.

It would give a fisherman on Coralville Lake the right to file
charges against a person in a canoe or children running down a nearby
trail along the shore. This is unbelievable!

Our public lands are for ALL individuals, NOT for just one special
interest group. This bill would also place one individuals word (ie:
Hunter) against another individuals word (ie:Hiker) on who disturbed
who.

If a birding group is enjoying the day watching birds. While they are
out in the field, kids on bicycles sped through the field and scare
off the birds. In this situation, do you think that anyone would
listen to their complaint? People would just say, " Oh kids will be
kids!" Would this bill cover the birding group, or individuals that
want to listen to the natural sounds of the river or prairie? Would
it support their needs as well? I doubt that it does, and I also
doubt that the sponsors of this bill want it too support all nature
lovers either!

Therefore, please do NOT support this needless and biased special
interest bill. We all need to be able to enjoy Iowa's beautiful
lands.

Thank you!
