Roy Overton from Izaak Walton League sent news that the Governor and
Legislature have reached an agreement on the water quality bill. They
improved the language considerably, according to the Governor's office, and
they have a commitment on the dollar amounts for the program.
Also, on the deregulation bill, it was stalled in the House so it was moved
to the Senate.
ELECTRIC DEREGULATION. H Majority Leader Rants said that HF 2530 is not
dead. The proponents are now short on votes in the H. Approximately eight
Republicans would vote no and one Democrat is a solid yes. Senator Jensen
has stated that if the bill reaches the Senate, he will insist the
renewable energy should come from Iowa and not some distant state. The
language would probably require that it be metered in Iowa. Senate
Majority Leader Iverson said the S may spend some time discussing the HF.
