The press release for today's protest rally in Ames at the Biotech Eduction
Syposium incorrectly states that the event is endorsed by the Iowa Chapter of
Sierra Club.
The Iowa Chapter Executive Committee, the only body that could endorse the
event on behalf of the Sierra Club Iowa Chapter, has not endorsed this event.
However, the chair of the national Sierra Club Genetic Engineering Committee
(GEC), Laurel Hopwood, is fully supportive of my participation in the event,
where I plan to be one of the speakers. It is my intention, supported by
Laurel, to identify myself as a member of the Sierra Club GEC and to state
that Sierra Club policy, adopted May 21, 2000, now calls for a moratorium on
the release of genetically engineered organisms into the environment.
