Hello Friends,
I've begun a national network called "The Mid-West Anti-Drift
Coalition" (MADCO) - a resource and support group for anyone who is
concerned with pesticide contamination - farmers, growers, home-gardeners,
drift-survivors, chemically sensitive people, prairie preservationists,
those with environmental illness, consumers who don't want pesticides in or
on their food & parents who don't want their children exposed to toxic
chemicals in schools or on the ground where they play.
Please contact me if you'd like to be included on the list of interested
folks. Right now I'm working on building the resource website -
http://www.StopDrift.org - just bought the domain last month!
The Organic Gardening Magazine story by Senior Research Editor Cheryl Long
on pesticide drift may be postponed until after the July 2001 issue, so
please do keep an eye out for it.
The Growing for Market story "How to Deal With Pesticide Drift" by Lynn
Byczynski just came out - Volume 10, #3 issue. It's quite comprehensive,
especially concerning Iowa drift cases & statistics - I have a number of
extra copies I'd be happy to mail to anyone who is interested and doesn't
subscribe to the publication. The article is geared towards ALL growers -
not just organic - who have pesticide-sensitive crops (& that includes just
about all of us).
If you'd like to subscribe to Growing for Market, call (785) 748-0605 or
visit http://www.growingformarket.com. It's $30./year and well worth it.
Here is the information re: our three pesticide drift protection signs. I
also found another source for signs (different & less expensive than ours)
which might interest you - that info. will follow this:

**The other signs I mentioned above are larger white corrugated plastic
[18"x24"] with black and red printing. They say "TOXIC SPRAY PROHIBITED"
at the top with a big red circle and bar in the center enclosing a graphic
of spray hitting clover and a ladybug and "ORGANIC FARM" at the bottom.
They're very nice looking and at the Upper Midwest Organic Farming
Conference they were $5.- $6. ea. depending how many one purchased. I don't
know what the mail-order price would be. They are made and distributed by
Prescott Bergh, Four Winds Farm, River Falls, Wisc. (715) 425-6037 -
http://www.ciranda.com.
If you'd like I can send you a low KB .jpg scan of the Four Winds design or
any of our designs. That's all for now - Happy Planting! If you are in Iowa
I hope you can attend one of the renewable energy/agriculture meetings this
month or next - the complete schedule including dates, locations, speakers,
sponsors & links is available at:
http://www.geocities.com/energyfarming/meeting_schedule.html.
Best,
E.
