Dear Members and Friends of the Organic Food Network,

      So, here I am sending you this at the 11th hour, but if you have just
a few minutes today , please go to http://www.foodsafetynow.org and send the
form letter demanding that GE foods be labeled.

      Do you think you should have the right to know if the foods you eat
contain genetically engineered ingredients?  The FDA doesn't.

      The FDA has decided to make all labeling of genetically engineered
("GE") foods voluntary. Not surprisingly, no GE food producer has agreed to
label their products. So consumers still will have no way of knowing which
foods have been genetically engineered. This voluntary labeling scheme not
only violates the consumer's right to know, it also has health consequences.
Without labeling, neither consumers nor health professionalswill know if an
allergic or toxic reaction was the result of a genetically engineered food.
Consumers will also be deprived of the critical knowledge they need to hold
food producers liable should any ofthese novel foods prove hazardous.

      The comment period on the FDA's new proposed regulations has been
extended to MAY 3rd.  If you do not have time to type up a letter to the FDA
yourself, check out http://www.foodsafetynow.org.  They have a pre-written
letter (which you can modify if you like or send as is) that you can email
to the FDA.

       Please feel free to forward this email and, if interested, remember
to take action by May 3rd.
