Senate AG Committee to Hold
Field Hearings in Tipton, IA
WASHINGTON --- U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Senate
Agriculture Committee will hold a field hearing in Tipton, Iowa on Saturday,
August 18 to discuss the future of the farm bill and other related
agricultural/rural issues. This field hearing is one of a series of regional
hearings Harkin has held across Iowa this year in preparation for the new
federal farm bill.
"As the Senate Agriculture Committee develops a new farm bill, it is critically
important to address pressing issues affecting the future of Iowa's farm
families and rural communities. Among them are dealing with low commodity
prices, improving income protection, expanding markets for farm commodities,
conservation of our precious land and water resources and strengthening rural
economies," said Harkin. "The best ideas come from Iowans who are directly
effected by farm and rural policies, and I look forward to hearing these ideas
at this hearing."
Details of the hearings are as follows:
SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 2001
10:00 A.M. - 12:00 NOON
