I received this clarification on another listserve about the deer season
dates. I don't know if the parks are closed during archery seasons. I do
know the closing of Brown's Woods was considered in Polk County for its
archery season, but that restriction was not put in the final rule.

According to printed rules for the 2001-2002 deer season,
(available at sporting goods stores or on the web at
www.state.ia.us/government/dnr/organiza/fwb/wildlife/pages/hunting.htm
most of these parks have limited seasons. I believe the intent was
that the parks would be closed only on those days, and only during
firearm seasons. Archery seasons are longer, but I don't think parks
have been closed during archery seasons in the past.
Here is a partial list of park deer (firearm) season dates:
> Elk Rock State Park Marion County - Dec. 1-2
> George Wyth - (Archery is Oct. 8-Jan 10)
> Lake Darling State Park Washington County - Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 15-16
> Lake of Three Fires State Park Taylor County - Dec. 1-2
> Lake Manawa State Park Pottawattamie County - (archery is Oct. 1-Jan. 10)
> Springbrook State Park Guthrie County - Dec. 2-3 (?)
> Viking Lake State Park Montgomery County - Dec 1-2
The youth and disabled season for deer this year is Sept. 22-Oct. 7
The archery season is Oct. 1-Nov. 30 AND Dec. 17-Jan. 10
Muzzleloader seasons are Oct. 13-21 AND Dec. 17-Jan. 10
Regular shotgun seasons are Dec. 1-5 and Dec. 8-16.
We can help hunters be safe by being orange and CONSPICUOUS when we're
outdoors.
