The Coco Cola Civic Action Network (CAN) continues to fight "forced
deposit" laws in the U.S.

In their latest newsletter dated October 2001, they report that Senator Jim
Jeffords (I-VT) is planning to introduce national bottle bill
legislation. Let's contact Senators Chuck Grassley
<[log in to unmask]> and Tom Harkin
<[log in to unmask]> to express our support for Senator Jeffords'
plan.

Here is what I'm sending and you are welcome to use it...

Dear Senator ---

I am sure you are well aware of the success of Iowa's Bottle Bill in
cleaning up our state's roadways. Now Senator Jim Jeffords (I-VT) is
planning to introduce national bottle bill legislation. I urge you to
contact Senator Jeffords and express your support for this measure.

Thank you,

Another of Coke's national campaigns is working with Congressman Richard
Burr (R-NC) to design legislation that would place responsibility for food
labeling with the FDA instead of allowing states to continue this
function. That means California's high standards would no longer be
enforceable. We should contact our representatives about this campaign.

Coke is also opposing a bill for bottled water legislation in Vermont that
would give consumers better information about the products they are using.
