"companion" bills have passed out of both House and Senate Ag committees.  They
were passed out, then re-referred to their respective committees of origin, so
they could beat the deadline for the first funnel.  Both  are shell bills,
collections of phrases highlighting key areas that will be fleshed out when the
working group of twelve has worked through the various issues and has drafted
the "real" text.  This "full text" will be filed as an amendment, colloquially
referred to as a "strike after,"* that when passed will become the bill.

As you all may know, Rep. Russ Teig, who has been a thoughtful and productive
member of the working group, suffered a stroke this week and is not expected to
return to the legislature for some time--possibly several weeks.  Rep. DAvid
Johnson has been appointed to fill in for Teig.  Also please note that Sen.
Merlin Bartz resigned from the legislature; a special election will be held in
three weeks to replace him.
