Iowa Wetlands In Need (IWIN) was formed last March in response to a
U.S. Supreme Court decision that removed protections for isolated
wetlands in all states, including Iowa. Over the last ten months,
IWIN has worked to protect isolated wetlands in Iowa City, Johnson
County, and the State of Iowa. We have made some progress, and we'd
like to share details of our success and work on further action with
conservationists and others at a meeting in Iowa City from 1 to 3
p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn
St. We hope to build a strong state coalition that can effect
isolated wetlands protection.

Directions from I-80:
Take Dubuque Street exit toward downtown Iowa City.
Take Dubuque all the way to where it "Ts" with Washington St. (You'll
see the Sheraton hotel looming ahead.)
Take a left onto Washington (it's one way so only a left is possible).
At the next intersection, take a right on to Linn St.
The library will be on your right, at the next stop sign.
A parking structure is just past it on the right. (Avoid the surface
parking lot. It's designed for short-term parking and thus is pricey.)

In addition, if you know of other individuals and groups in Iowa that
might support our efforts but cannot attend the meeting, please help
us get in touch with them. About half of IWIN's support is clustered
around Johnson County, but protecting isolated wetlands is a
statewide issue. We would appreciate it if you contact some of your
friends and colleagues across the state and get their permission to
share their names and e-mail/addresses with us. We will send them
information describing IWIN's objective.

Thanks for your consideration, Becky Soglin
