In response to Charlie Winterwood's question about whether it is enough to
be an IOWATER volunteer using the IOWATER protocol to have your results
used by the DNR, I sent a note to Rich Leopold, IOWATER coordinator, who
replies that all IOWATER data is reviewed and used in preparing the 303 (b)
report on the condition of Iowa's waters. If, however, you plan to use
monitoring data to have a classified water placed on the Impaired Waters
list. you have to prepare a plan and submit it to the DNR for that
purpose. There is a system of checks and balances that should be used for
the purpose.
