Environmental Advocates invites public to garbage/recycling forum

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- "Garbage -- What to do with it?" will be addressed at a
panel discussion to be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 21 in Meeting Room A of
the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St. Come learn about the present
and future of solid waste management and recycling, including costs and
challenges, in our community. The public is invited to bring their questions
and ideas as well. The event will be hosted by Environmental Advocates.

Brad Neumann, head of Solid Waste Planning, Iowa City, will talk about
existing and pilot waste programs for the city, such as trial automated
waste containers. Donald Cell, a retired Cornell College professor, will
describe a program known as "Pay-as-You-Throw" (or unit-based pricing). Cell
helped design a pay-as-you-throw program for Mount Vernon. A
question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.
