This article in the Christian Science Monitor reports that congress is
considering a bill that would grant the Pentagon an exemption from some
federal environmental laws that it did not have during the Gulf War.
The article reports that the Pentagon currently spends $4 billion a year to
comply with laws designed to remove hazardous wastes, clean the air, and
protect endangered species.
The Monitor further states that the military has a greater impact on the
environment that "far exceeds many industries" and urges that congress
provide the necessary funds.
