Latham listed as one of ten most vulnerable

An article that appeared in Roll Call lists Tom Latham as one of the 10
most vulnerable incumbents in the nation.  Roll  Call took into
consideration the demographics of the district, the ability of the
challenger to raise money and the overall strength of the challenger
when ranking the races.

According to the article:
      “Latham's re-election prospects were seriously jeopardized by the
nonpartisan redistricting commission in the state, which placed his home
in the new 4th district…National Republicans are clearly concerned about
this race. Latham is one of the few House Members to receive a
fundraising visit from Bush this cycle… Latham also is the biggest
recipient of leadership PAC money of any Republican incumbent to this
point in the cycle. In 2001 he was named to the House GOP leadership's
Retain Our Majority Program to steer Members' dollars toward his
campaign.”

The article continues:
      “Democrats are thrilled about their recruitment of former state
party Chairman John Norris…Norris has run an extremely active campaign
to this point. At the end of the first quarter, he had raised $482,000,
with $380,000 on  hand…Democrats believe Norris is their best chance of
knocking off a Republican incumbent in the state and will dedicate
significant financial resources to ousting Latham.”

 “I am pleased that Roll Call understands what many people in Iowa’s 4th
Congressional District already know – the time is right for change in
this district,” said Norris.  “We have been getting tremendous support
from across the district and people are excited about this campaign.
Iowans are tired of business as usual in Washington and they are ready
for new leadership.”
