HEARING SITE ADDED FOR AIR POLLUTANTS
Davenport has been added as an additional hearing site for the DNR to gather
public comment on air quality standards for ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and
sampling procedures.
The public hearing will be Nov. 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Davenport
Public Library, 321 Main Street. Both oral and written comments can be made
regarding the air standards and the sampling procedure at the hearing. A
deadline of Nov. 6 has been set for all public comment which can also be
made in writing to the Air Quality Bureau, 7900 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA
50322.
The standards would apply statewide and are not restricted to animal feeding
operations; however, the draft rules are based on recommendations of the ISU
and UI study of air quality around feeding operations. The draft rules can
be found at www.iowacleanair.com.
One hearing has already taken place in NW Iowa and three others are
scheduled:
Atlantic on Sept. 24, 7 p.m., in the conference room of Iowa Western
Community College at 906 Sunnyside Lane;
Mason City on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the North Iowa Area Community College's
Muse-Norris Center, 500 College Drive;
Urbandale on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the conference rooms of the Urbandale
Public Library, 3520 86th Street.
