Sierra Iowa, EVEC UPDATE! 10/3/2002

As of this morning, plans for the Sierra Club/EVEC Make A Better World Rally
& LitDrop are in place and proceeding. Phonebanking has progressed daily for
a week, wish we could have done more of it, but good coverage of members who
live in the Central Iowa region. Nearly 1000 out of 1250 member households
have been called and at least a message left. Others have also been reached
by email.

39 commitments to help have been secured, and many of those have mentioned
bringing spouses, friends, children or grandchildren. Several school
government classes or Sierra Student Groups have been contacted. So.....I
anticipate that all translates to at least 50, maybe more, for door to door
work on Saturday in the western suburbs of Des Moines. (Praying for No
Rain!)

Sherry in Ames is working on the litdrop for a part of that community, as is
Dennis for Indianola, for either Saturday or later dates. Mason City may
develop as well, for a later date.

We have 12,000 Voter Guides to distribute in the next week-10 days and I
think we will make it!

I want to say a big Thank You to All Who Have Helped so far! We are most
grateful to the dozens who have or will help.

If you have still not responded, and can come on Saturday, we would still
love to have you. There can never be too many volunteers, just more work can
be accomplished! Thatıs campaigning!

Thatıs an Update, and an Appeal. Thanks for paying attention.

Directions to Event Kick-Off:

Go west on Hickman from I-35, turn left (South) on 128th, thatıs about a
mile west of I-35, then go about 1/2 mile (across Walnut Creek), to a left
turn on Woodlands Parkway, which is the entrance to the Park. The Gazebo
will be basically straight down that street, about 500 yards. There shold be
signage as well to be helpful.
