Speaking of higways, sprawl and transportation, I hope that subscribers in

of the northern extension of MLK)
SOUTHWEST CONNECTOR, Army Post Road northeast to Iowa 28, West Des Moines
(this cuts just outside the edge of Brown's Woods
NE BELTWAY, Study for NE Beltway, Polk County (this is self-explanatory)
GREAT WESTERN TRAIL, Improve Great Western Trail, West Des Moines (this is
undoubtedly suggested because the current trail is in the way of the
expansion of the airport).

The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will hold a
public information meeting, to receive input and comments on the amendments
to the Federal Fiscal Years 2006-2008 Transportation Improvement Program
(FFY 2006-2008 TIP).
- Iowa Department of Transportation requested the addition of AMERICAN
DISCOVERY TRAIL, Phase 3 & 4 along Walnut Creek, Des Moines - total project
cost of $200,000, federal-aid request $160,000 in Federal Fiscal Year 2006
to the Surface Transportation Program Transportation Enhancement section of
the FFY 2006-2008 TIP.
- Iowa Department of Transportation requested the following additions of
High Priority Projects and Transportation Improvements to the Demonstration
Awards section of the FFY 2006-2008 TIP.
· ALICE'S ROAD/105th STREET INTERCHANGE, 105th Street at I-80,
Waukee and West Des Moines;
· SOUTHEAST CONNECTOR, SW 2nd Street to SE 14th Street, including
new Des Moines River bridge, Des Moines;
· RIVERWALK, East and West sides of Des Moines River between Center
Street Dam and Vine Street, Des Moines;
· ANKENY TO WOODWARD RAIL TRAIL, Construct 25.0 miles of trail,
signature bridge over Des Moines River, and Central Iowa Trail, Ankeny and
Polk County;
· E FIRST STREET INTERCHANGE, Reconstruction of E. First Street
interchange and construction of a new interchange at or near NE 36th Street,

· BONDURANT RAIL SPUR, Purchase 9.1 miles of Union Pacific rail

The FFY 2006-2008 TIP is an annual document that identifies transportation
projects that Des Moines Area MPO member governments and agencies intend to
implement using federal funds over the next three years. The Des Moines
Area MPO will take action on the FFY 2006-2008 TIP at its November 17, 2005,
meeting.
The public meeting will be conducted utilizing an open forum format. Des
Moines Area MPO staff will be present with information to discuss the
amendments of Federal Fiscal Year 2006-2008 Transportation Improvement
Program and to respond to questions.
Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the meeting to express their
views and ask questions. Written statements and related exhibits will be
accepted at the public meeting or may be submitted to the Des Moines Area
MPO.
