MARCH EVENTS
SUNDAY, MARCH 12: Yellow Banks Park-
Oak Savanna Prairie Restoration
Meet at 1 p.m. near the ranger's office/workshop at Yellow Banks County
Park to participate in the restoration of one of Iowa's rarest ecosystems.
We will be continuing to clear invasive brush and finish around 3:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided. Wear long pants and shirts, heavy work shoes
or boots, and work gloves. Some tools will be provided, but please bring
loppers and hand saws if you have them. Difficulty level: Moderate. Contact

SUNDAY, MARCH 12: Story County Hike
Carr Pool, Ames-meet at the south end of the parking lot. Carr Pool is
just off of 13th Street on Meadowlane Avenue by the city pool. For

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15: Des Moines Program -New Member Welcome-6:30 p.m. and
Growing Green Communities by Tina Mowry Hadden
New members will be welcomed beginning at 6:30 p.m. before the program
by Tina Mowry Hadden, with the new organization, Growing Green Communities,
describing the concepts of Conservation Development and green
infrastructure. Monthly programs are held at Grace United Methodist Church,
located at 37th and Cottage Grove. Parking is located behind the
church--enter through the south double doors and the meeting is in the lower

SUNDAY, MARCH 19: Story County Hike
Meet at Soper's Mill, located approximately 3 miles east of Hwy. 69 on
170th Street near 563rd Avenue, on the SW side of the river. For information

SATURDAY, MARCH 25: Polk County Hike
Hike along the Des Moines River. Meet at 11 a.m. at the Sycamore Access
west of the river on NW 66th Street. Contact George at

SUNDAY, MARCH 26: Story County Hike
McFarland Park-meet at Parking Lot-West Edge-McFarland Park is 1.75
miles east of Highway 69 on 180th Street; approximately four miles north of
Ames between Highway 69 (Grand Avenue) and Dayton Road. There are park
entrances on both the east and west sides of the Skunk River. For
