Iowa's CO2 emissions climbed steadily between 1976 and
1995 during which time Iowa added 4000 MW of coal
fired generating capacity including an additional 900
MW unit at the Council Bluffs power plant, the new
700MW Ottumwa facility(which just concluded a
switchgrass cogeneration experiment) and a 1200 MW
unit at the George Neal facility in Woodbury County.
Between 1960 and 2001 Iowa's CO2 emissions from coal
almost quadrupled.
Natural gas geneated CO2 emissions increased by 95%
and vehicle generated CO2 emissions increased by 32%
in Iowa over that same period of time.
