EPA wants exemption for livestock farms
Operations wouldn't have to report emissions from various air pollutants.

By PHILIP BRASHER
REGISTER WASHINGTON BUREAU
Washington, D.C. - The Bush administration is moving to protect livestock
farms from pollution reporting rules and potential liability for manure
runoff.

The Environmental Protection Agency intends to exempt farms from having to
report emissions of ammonia and other air pollutants under the federal
Superfund law, said Jon Scholl, the agency's agriculture adviser. The agency
also will clarify that manure should not be considered a hazardous waste
when properly used as fertilizer, he said.

Nevada, Ia. - America should drastically cut carbon dioxide emissions,
conserve electricity and increase the fuel economy of its cars, former U.S.
Sen. John Edwards said here Tuesday.

The North Carolina Democrat, who is running for president, said few
scientists doubt that the Earth is warming because of human activity. The
trend will lead to disaster unless dramatic steps are taken, he said.
