I certainly understand how frustrated we can all be about the lack of
possibility on CAFO legislation. I do think this bill is a good step
in that it provides an official forum for local neighbors and
activists to be recorded as to their opposition, concern, or support
of a proposed facility. That is a far superior opportunity than
showing up to ‘demonstrate’ at the Capitol, or challenge the ethics of
a legislator who anyone would know is not going to be ‘defrocked’ of
her committee, so really only makes enemies of her colleagues.
This gets the actual concerns of people ‘on the record.’
I know it is not really much, but certainly an improvement. And a
better organizing tool. I really don’t care what position we want to
take, and can change registrations at any time.
