DNR Seeks Public Comment on Water Quality Standards-
Chloride, Sulfate and Total Dissolved Solids
The DNR is seeking public comments on the proposed rules to establishes
requirements for the protection and management of Iowa's surface water
quality.
People can comment orally or in writing on the proposed rules at seven
public meetings:
- 11:00 a.m. on July 7 in the Orange City Public Library at 112 Albany
Avenue SE, Orange City, IA
- 6:00 p.m. on July 7 in the Spencer Public Library at 21 E. 3rd Street,
Spencer, IA
- 1:00 p.m. on July 9 in the fifth floor conference rooms of the Wallace
State Office Building, 502 East Ninth Street, Des Moines, IA,
- 11:00 a.m. on July 13 in the Dubuque Public Library at 360 W. 11th Street,
Dubuque, IA
- 6:00 p.m. on July 13 in the Iowa City Public Library at 123 S. Linn
Street, Iowa City, IA
- 10:00 a.m. on July 15 in the Atlantic Public Library at 507 Poplar Street,
Atlantic, IA
- 11:00 a.m. on July 16 in the Clear Lake Public Library at 200 N. 4th
Street, Clear Lake, IA,
The changes being proposed will propose the following:
Establish numerical water quality criteria for chloride for the protection
of aquatic life uses.
Establish numerical water quality criteria for sulfate for the protection of
aquatic life uses.
· Remove TDS criteria and implementation approach
· Revises default hardness level used for hardness dependent
chemical criteria from 100 mg/l (as CaCO3) to 200 mg/l.
