*****Iowa PIRG ACTION ALERT*****
STOP THE SNEAK ATTACKS ON OUR HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT
National Call in Day, Friday October 8th!
Call today (Friday) or Saturday at the latest.

Air pollution, water pollution, global warming, and a host of other
environmental hazards threaten the public health and the planet.

And yet Congress has attached more than 20 anti-environmental riders, or
unrelated provisions attached to spending bills, to budget bills that must be
passed before Congress adjourns at the end of October. These riders would:
    *block efforts to curb global warming;
    *increase logging in our national forests; and
    *increase toxic mining pollution;

ACT NOW!!
Call the President's Chief of Staff, John Podesta today at (202)456-6797.
Tell the person who answers that you want to leave a message for the Chief of
Staff to tell him to urge the President to veto any legislation containing
anti-environmental riders. You may get transferred to the White House
comment line. In which case, please leave a message.

Why Podesta? We believe that he is one of the folks in the White House
advising Clinton on whether or not to veto any budget bills with riders.
Plus, we can talk to a real person who answers the phone!

Why now? The White House is deciding NOW what they're going to do (sign or
not sign) on the budget bills. They need to hear from the public--they've
already heard enough from the special interests!

Please email Iowa PIRG at [log in to unmask] so we can track how many calls
we're generating. Plus, we've heard some great stories about the response
we're getting from Podesta's office, so tell me what's happening.

Thanks!
