Deregulation is the poll topic on the Speaker's Website this week. Usually
only a couple of people respond, so why don't we flood him with "no" votes.

Electric Restructuring Fate
Known this Week

The future of electric restructuring hangs in the balance this week. Leaders
in the House hope to bring it to the floor on Monday, but are sensing it
lacks the bi-partisan support needed for passage.

"An issue like this one is not political. It needs to have widespread support
from both sides of the aisle," said Speaker Siegrist. "Right now, we don't
have 51 Republicans who will vote for the bill and I read in the paper that
the House Democrats haven't been able to muster much support for it. The
Governor helped negotiate the terms that are in the bill and I believe he's
supportive of it. I'm hoping Governor Vilsack will help round up the
Democratic votes needed to pass the bill and make it truly a bi-partisan
piece of legislation.

Electric restructuring would introduce competition into the marketplace,
allowing consumers to choose their utility provider. It would also require
utility providers to make significant investments in renewable energy.
Twenty-four states have already enacted similar legislation.

This week's polling question: Is restructuring the electric industry to allow
for competition among providers a good idea? Vote at www.brentsiegrist.com
