** High Priority **
** NPCA SPECIAL ALERT **
SUPPORT NPS BAN ON SNOWMOBILES! CALL SENATORS TODAY!!
Dear Park Activist:
We have just learned that the Senate is going to the floor TODAY with
the FY 01 Interior Appropriations bill. There have been strong rumors
suggesting that a rider could be offered, which would inhibit the
National Park Service (NPS) from following through with their decision
to ban harmful snowmobiles from our national parks.
Strong public support is making the difference! Just a few weeks ago,
Rep. Rick Hill (MT) planned to offer an amendment to the FY 01 Interior
Appropriations bill, which would prevent the NPS) from regulating
snowmobile use from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Rep.
Hill, however, never offered his amendment because of the huge public
outcry in favor of removing snowmobiles from our national parks. This
is fantastic news, however, the Senate will be taking up their version
of the bill TODAY and they NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU RIGHT NOW!
TAKE ACTION! Please CALL the Senators listed below - especially, but
not only if you are from their state. PHONE CALLS are needed RIGHT NOW
since the time is so short. Let them know that you support the NPS
decision to remove snowmobiles from our national parks. Urge them to
accept no anti-environmental riders, and especially any which would
prohibit the NPS from protecting our national parks from harmful,
incompatible snowmobile use. Tell them you fully and strongly support
the NPS decision to remove snowmobiles from our national parks, and urge
them to do the same.
WHO TO CALL: Listed below are Senators in critical need of contact.
These Senators need serious pressure, so contact all of them, but if you
live in the state of one listed, it is especially critical that they be
contacted by you TODAY.
