Governor Vilsack will join executives from DuPont, Monsanto, and other companies engaged in genetic engineering of crops to encourage more of this type of industry in Iowa. IBA works against labeling of genetically modified foods. Genetically modified crops such as corn, soybeans, potatoes, and cotton have not been proven safe, and in fact are implicated in an increasing number of human and environmental health risks. Europe is rejecting these foods; however, in the US, industry pressure has kept consumers from having access to the labeling that would enable them to avoid altered foods.
