From Jane Clark at [log in to unmask] Taken from the minutes. AT THE DNR COMMISSION MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2000. Although it was not on the agenda, and although it was not one of the recommended legislative items presented by staff, "Commissioner Garrels asked about adding a bill regarding motor size at Lake MacBride, as was suggested last year. He said the commission heard good comments, both pro and con on this issue, but he said he feels if boat speed is kept at no wake, the lake should be available to all of the public. Commissioner Sullivan added that Lake MacBride is the only artificial lake in the state that has this restriction." Commissioner Christiansen reported that the Lake MacBride people have not changed their stand on this issue. He said they did not support it last year and will not again this year. He added that he does not think there has to be every use for every lake and he could not support this legislation. Allen Farris (head of DNR Fisheries and Wildlife) remarked that it is not right that a user with a 50 up motor is excluded three months of the year if they operate at a no wake speed. He asked if this means other users are more important. Larry Wilson (deputy director of the DNR) commented that it is unfortunate a person has to make another motor purchase to go on Lake MacBride. He said the people of the state can be trusted to do the right thing, but if a problem does develop, the department is prepared to handle the situation. Motion was made by Commissioner Garrels to approve the eight legislative proposals as submitted and to add to the legislative package, legislation removing the motor size limit on Lake MacBride. Seconded by Commissioner Sullivan. Roll call vote was as follows: Richard Garrels -- Aye: Paul Christiansen -- Nay: Bill Sullivan -- Aye: Joan Schneider -- May: Kim Francisco -- Aye: Marian Meyer -- Aye. Motion carried on a 4-2 vote. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For SC email list T-and-C, send: GET TERMS-AND-CONDITIONS.CURRENT to [log in to unmask]
