PLANET OF THE ACHES
The U.S. continues to hold up progress at international climate talks
underway in The Hague, Netherlands, writes Bill McKibben in Grist.
Delegates from many other nations want to work together to create, in
the words of French President Jacques Chirac, a "genuine instrument
of global governance" under which nations can tackle the worldwide
problem of climate change. But the U.S. is loathe to give up any
sovereignty over its economy, even though America produces far more
greenhouse gases per capita than other nations and even though these
gases are causing problems far beyond its borders. Will the U.S.
come to realize that global problems require global solutions? Read
more on the Grist Magazine website.
