Along with 42 of my Senate colleagues, I urged President Bush to provide $2 billion in regular appropriations for LIHEAP during the upcoming Fiscal Year 2002 budget negotiations. This is an increase of $600 million over FY2001. We also expressed our desire to increase funding for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the State Energy Program (SEP), both of which complement LIHEAP by addressing the underlying problems associated with high energy costs. These critical programs will provide necessary relief to low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled, who are currently facing record energy prices. --- end forwarded text -- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Rex L.
