Jane Clark at [log in to unmask] This just-listed added Sierra Club national (really international) activist outing gives Sierra Club volunteers an extraordinary chance to visit a remote, little publicized area and become part of the campaign to protect it. Discounts available for activists willing to serve as a Chapter representative on the issue. Leader: Bill Evans. Email: [log in to unmask] Ph. 619-463-1521 Participate in the first Sierra Club National Outing to explore and adventure into this wild immense ark of biodiversity between the western Canada Coast Range mountains and the canyons of the Fraser River. Ten of the 14 ecosystems in British Columbia hold fast to their integrity in this landscape three times larger than Yellowstone. We will travel with "resident" guide-naturalists, backpacking into two unique areas threatened with destructive extractive industry if not protected. A floatplane shuttle between areas will lend perspective and variety to the vast scale and pristine character of the Chilcotin Ark. Come experience a globally significant wilderness, one of the few remaining Great Spaces in North America, a sanctuary for biodiversity. Our sojourn includes temperate rainforest valleys with river systems like the Klinaklini threatened with industrial logging; the Niut Mountains with Razorback Peak and the clear-cut threatened Otterasko Valley; the Alplands with a unique abundance of alpine lakes, and the 2000' deep Atnarko Trench mixed in with glaciated peaks and icefields. And overlaying the entire country is a semi-Serengeti of wildlife species diversity. Then add to this mix an extraordinary group of personable and experienced local conservation advocates who will open this country for us and enrich us well beyond the outing. We look forward to embracing an enthusiastic commitment to work for its continued integrity. Airfare from Vancouver, all on-trip transport, meals, lodging, and guide-naturalists included. $1295 (US). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To get off the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask]
