Field Trip re: food production in Iowa - FYI. A chance to ask some of the serious questions raised in the recent issue of the Sierra magazine - well worth reading cover-to-cover, in my opinion. Best, Ericka Dana, ICAG ---------- From: "Candy Streed" <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2001 Subject: LIFE Tour-6/30-Living an Iowa Farm Experience Saturday, June 30th is the first of the Silos & Smokestacks/Country Heritage Community motorcoach tours in our "Living an Iowa Farm Experience (LIFE)" program. This tour is "Farm to Table," a series of visits that take you to a modern dairy, an organic beef producer, a cheese factory, a small modern locker plant and a family-run market. You'll get to talk to the producers and processors first hand and find out from the inside what it takes to get our food from "farm to table." Along the way you will learn about many of the interesting historical sites we'll pass by and through some of the most scenic byways in NE Iowa. Lunch will be in Elkader at your own expense. Free 12-quart coolers will be provided to purchase farm-fresh products along the way. If you wish to have a seat on the coach for this first tour, please contact Peter Jorgensen at [log in to unmask] to reserve your space. First come, first served!
