Did you see the article in the paper the other day about Harkin and Grassley asking for $ to study the 12 special areas for protection? It was page 4 of the Metro & Iowa section of the Des Moines Register on Saturday, July 14. Hills study approved Preservation efforts in the Loess Hills in western Iowa have moved a step further. Senators..........obtained authorization for a study of 12 special landscape areas in the Loess Hills in an Interior approp. bill approved this week (last week) by the Senate. The NPS would need to report back to Congress on this study by Jan. 15. The report is supposed to recommend how these areas could be preserved. The Senate bill must be reconciled with a House bill that does not include the Loess Hills language. *article also mentions that the current study is expected to recommend against park designation. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To get off the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask]
