This field hearing is one of a series of regional hearings Harkin has held across Iowa this year in preparation for the new federal farm bill. "As the Senate Agriculture Committee develops a new farm bill, it is critically important to address pressing issues affecting the future of Iowa's farm families and rural communities. Among them are dealing with low commodity prices, improving income protection, expanding markets for farm commodities, conservation of our precious land and water resources and strengthening rural economies," said Harkin. "The best ideas come from Iowans who are directly effected by farm and rural policies, and I look forward to hearing these ideas at this hearing."
