That is my impression that the Senators are willing to filibuster on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The lobbying groups in Washington, DC are actively lobbying on this issue. They are planning a major campaign, once the Senate is back in session in September. The Arctic Coalition, of which the Sierra Club is a member, is planning a citizens lobby week in DC the first week of September. We should all continue writing letters to Senator Grassley, even though he is in favor of drilling. The main talking point to Senator Grassley is that the 2000 acres is not in one location, but is spread across the coastal plain. There will be numerous drilling pads. The oil pumped from each location will be transferred via pipeline to processing facilities. Included in the 2000 acres is land for processing facilities, roads, housing for the workers, air strips, and desalination plants. Drilling will bring industrialization to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Pam
