I attended the Vision Iowa hearing in McGregor the night before last concerning the proposed destination super park to be located 3.5 miles West of McGregor on the South side of Hwy 18 near Spook Cave but on the other side of the highway. The site is primarily agricultural land(at least they didnŐt carve up the blufflands overlooking the Mississippi). The park would contain a 18 hole golf course ,a 76 unit hotel,a 8000 sq. ft convention center, a 8000 sq. ft. wellness center, a 40 unit retirement center, a restaurant, and a water park. The proposed snow boarding -snowtubing winterpark was dropped from the grant proposal but might be built in the future at an undisclosed site. The proposal also includes a bicycle path between McGregor and Marquette and community revitalization Grants for the main streets of McGregor,Marquette,Guttenberg, and Strawberry Point. I spoke at the hearing and opposed the destination super park, but did not oppose the bicycle path or community revitalization projects. The majority of the attendees and the speakers were in favor of the project but a significant minority were opposed.
