EPC TO CONSIDER APPEAL FROM WRIGHT COUNTY DES MOINES - The Environmental Protection Commission will be asked to consider an appeal from the Wright County Board of Supervisors on the DNR's issuance of a construction permit for Environ Eggs Production Company. The EPC meeting will be held Sept. 17, at 10 a.m., in the fourth floor conference room of the Wallace Building in Des Moines. There will be a public comment period at 10:30. The county's appeal alleges that the DNR should not have approved the permit without requiring a manure management plan and without considering air quality standards. Also up for the commissioners to consider is a rulemaking proposal to define and exempt some small air emission units from permit requirements. It also defines 'indoor units" for which no permit is required. The DNR worked with the Association of Business and Industry to develop the rule with mutual interest in not permitting sources with little environmental or health consequences. The members of the commission are Terrance Townsend, Chair, Newton; James Braun, Latimer; Lisa Davis-Cook, West Des Moines; Kathryn Murphy, LeMars; Rita Venner, Breda; Gary C. Priebe, Algona; Darrell Hanson, Manchester; J. Kelly Tobin, New Market and Lori Glanzman, Mt. Pleasant. The director of the DNR is Jeffrey Vonk.
