ASK U.S. REPRESENTATIVE GREG GANSKE TO CONTINUE HIS SUPPORT FOR REAL CAMPAIGN
FINANCE REFORM

Ask him to: SIGN THE CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM DISCHARGE PETITION

U.S. Representative Greg Ganske (IA-4) needs to hear from you immediately.
What is arguably the most critical moment in the several year effort to enact
campaign finance reform at hand. An unfair rule laying out the procedure for
debating the campaign finance reform bill was proposed by the House
Republican leadership in July. Rep. Ganske joined with 18 fellow Republicans
and nearly all the Democrats to defeat this rule.

Speaker Hastert then decided to put the bill in a drawer and said he wouldn’t
bring it back up unless 218 Representatives signed a "discharge petition".
But 210 Members of the House of Representatives (including 17 Republicans)
have now signed the petition that will force fair debate, and then a vote on
reform. It is vital that 8 Members add their names to secure the necessary
218 signatures. With the Senate having already passed the companion
McCain-Feingold bill and President George Bush signaling he will not veto
legislation adopted by Congress, we are very close to the first major
campaign finance reform since Watergate.

Representative Ganske has been a champion of campaign finance reform. Why has
he stopped now? He has repeatedly voted for Shays-Meehan in the past. He even
voted against Speaker Hastert’s unfair rule in August.
