Dahl's stores have petitions and are handing out fliers
that shout, "Your grocery store is not a garbage dump!"
The flier incorrectly states that Iowa's law directs
consumers to take millions of dirty, contaminated beverage containers to their
supermarkets every week.
The law has *never* required grocery stores to redeem
bottles and cans. All the store has to do is identify a redemption center
where consumers can return their bottles and cans.
It is not surprising to note that the grocery association
is using the same tactics that are being used at the national level to push
legislation through -- by using the terrorist threats and health threats of the
past few months.
Personally, I am more concerned about packages of raw
chicken that are scanned over the same scanner where apples and pears are
weighed.
