The Dirty Water Lobby, led by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, is attempting to
derail two attempts to protect Oklahoma Scenic Rivers by imposing a
numeric limit on phosphorus.

Below is an article from the Tahlequah, Okla. Press regarding the OFB
attempt to defeat a measure by State Senator Herb Rozell of Tahlequah.

Joining the Oklahoma Farm Bureau in lobbying against a phosphorus limit
for scenic rivers are Tyson Foods, the Arkansas Poultry Federation and
the State of Arkansas.

Bullying, phosphorus hot topics

Sen. Herb Rozell is determined to pass an anti-bullying bill through the
Legislature this year. Rozell also touched on the Legislature's aim to
correct problems with Oklahoma's waterways. He said he's gotten behind a
bill that would require the amount of phosphorous in waterways such as the
Illinois River and Lake Tenkiller to be held at an acceptable level. He said
several groups are fighting against the bill, but he doesn't understand why.

"We are trying to do things to clear up the river, and it can be done,"
said Rozell. "We can clean up the water, and we can do it without
hurting people. What I don't understand is that there were people voting
'no' against the bill. Why would anyone vote 'no' against clean water?"

Rozell said the Farm Bureau is lobbying against the clean water bill,
and that representatives have been handing out letters urging a "no"
vote.

Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission Executive Director Ed Fite then
thanked Rozell for supporting the bill. "I want to thank you publicly for
trying to save our water," said Fite. "If we don't continue to support our
water, it won't be healthy. People are moving here because of the lake,
because of the river and because of the university. If we work together, we
can accomplish this."
