RE: Agenda Items for Board of Directors Meeting, May 17-19, 2002, in San
Francisco.

The Board of Directors will have a regular meeting on May 17-19, 2002, at
Club
Headquarters in San Francisco, California.  Please submit all proposed
agenda items and
accompanying background materials to Gene Coan in the Executive Office for
consideration.  If it is an action item, please include a proposed
resolution.  The materials should be received at 85 Second St., 2nd Floor,
San Francisco, CA 94105, NO LATER
THAN May 1, 2002.

Soon after the deadline, President Jennifer Ferenstein and Executive
Director Carl
Pope will set the agenda.  Necessary background materials will be printed
and mailed to
Directors and other meeting participants prior to the meeting.  This
schedule allows the
staff adequate time to develop recommendations and gives the Board time to
study the
issues.  Any item that does not make the printed agenda may be considered
at the meeting
with the approval of two-thirds of the Directors.

The Board will have a retreat in Marin County from late Wednesday
afternoon, May
15, through mid-day on Friday, May 17.

The following entities are scheduled to meet at the May meeting: Board of
Directors,
GovCom Chairs, Inspectors of the Election, Nominating Committee, and The
Sierra Club
Foundation Board of Trustees.  Other entities that would like to
participate need to
contact Gene Coan immediately.  Hotel space is limited, so make
reservations as soon as
possible.

People who will attend the meeting can make flight and hotel reservations
through the

The briefs of action for the February 2002 Board of Directors meeting is
now
currently available on the Club's website.  Approved minutes for 1999,
2000, and 2001
are currently on this site as well.  The briefs of action are the
resolutions adopted at a meeting.  The minutes are the official transcripts
of the meetings.  If you would like to receive a printed hard copy of the
