The symptoms of Mercury poisoning include peripheral nerve damage and in severe cases Cerebral palsy neither of which occur in Autism. Because a cause for Autism(other than a hereditary predisposition) has not been found, parents of children with autism have been quick to place unfounded blame on a variety of environmental exposures-most recently MMR vaccinations. Organic mercury is much more dangerous than Mercury amalgam and I am unaware of any good scientific studies linking the small amounts of mercury in fillings with mercury poisoning although that hasn't kept people with Multiple Sclerosis from pulling all their dental fillings.
