Iowa Earth Day Activities Planned
Help Take Care of Everyone's Favorite Planet

Des Moines, IA:  The Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club has several Earth Day
activities planned throughout the state.  Iowans are encouraged to get
outside April 20 through 22 and help take care of everyone's favorite planet.
 Although Earth Day is officially on Monday, April 22, most activities are
planned for Saturday, April 20.

In Northeast Iowa, the White Pine Group of the Sierra Club is hosting a
prairie rescue at the Mines of Spain Recreation Area in Dubuque.  A coalition
of Iowa conservation groups will help "rescue" prairie sites from 9 AM to 1
PM on Saturday, April 20.  Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 AM at the E.B.
Lyons Nature Preserve and to bring tools for brush cutting.  For more

In the Quad Cities, the Eagle View Group of the Sierra Club will clean up its
River Mile of the Mississippi River in Moline, IL.  Volunteers are asked to
meet at the Celebration Belle parking lot at 9 AM on Saturday, April 20.  For

In Central Iowa, the Central Iowa Group of the Sierra Club will participate
in several events sponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
(DNR).  Earth Day Prairie Rescue events are scheduled from 9 AM to 1 PM on
Saturday, April 20, in various locations in Polk, Jasper, Webster, Guthrie,
Warren, and Marion counties.  Go to the Iowa DNR website at

The Cedar Wapsie Group of the Sierra Club, with the Audubon Society and other
groups, is hosting cleanup and work projects at the Indian Creek Nature
Center in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, April 20, from 9 AM to noon.  After the
cleanup, volunteers are invited to stay for an Earth Day program that will
feature music and presentations on current environmental issues.  For more
