Sierra Club Campout,
Friday and Saturday nights, at Preparation Canyon State Park hike-in campsites.

Ideally come before Friday evening Seminar activities to choose your site and set up your tent in daylight. There will be some time after the evening Seminar activities to set up camp, also, but remember you may need a lantern or flashlight to set up in the dark. Hike-in campsites range from 1/4 to one mile from parking area so bring a back-pack to make it easier to haul your gear.

Directions: Preparation Canyon State Park is located about half way between Pisgah and Morehead, Iowa on Route 183, in the southern part of Monona County. The hike-in campground parking area is not well marked. On 183, look for the sign for Preparation Canyon State Park. Do not turn to enter here--instead, go 1 mile (approx.) south on 183 to the next road (it is a gravel road and it may have a street sign saying Peach Ave); turn right (west) and the hike-in campground parking lot is just a tenth of mile in on the left. This is a self-registering site. It cost $9 a night, no change provided.

Note: this camping area is separate from the Seminar camping site, and is located about 20 minutes drive away from where the Seminar activities are centered. Our intention is to provide another overnight option for those who may want a more secluded setting. Camping at the Seminar site is free. Other sleeping accommodations are available for the Seminar--call the Loess Hills Hospitality Association at 712-886-5441 for more information.

Call Jack Eastman @ 641-469-5760 or email @ [log in to unmask] for more details on directions and camping. Preparation Canyon Park telephone #: 712-423-2829.

We hope to see you there!
