All Sierrans should take a look at the Aug 26,'02 edition
of TIME magazine cover story: How To Save The Earth. It
focuses on solutions and features pioneers such as Vandana
Shiva (organic farming, non GMO activist),Hermann
Scheer("Solar Crusader") and others. An article questioning
the the tactics of environmental groups is worth reading
but tends to blur distinctions between groups. I found
incredulous an editorial by EPA director Christine Todd
Whitman claiming President Bush's policy for dealing with
global climate change is "the strongest, smartest and most
practicle climate -change program the U.S. has ever had".
The counterpoint editorial by Mass. Sen John Kerry was OK
but did not deal directly with Whitman's (the White
House's) deceptive statistics which ajdusts greenhouse-gas
emissions relative to "the size of our economy". Her
statements definitly need a strong response from someone
who knows the Bush energy plan well.

I read the hard copy of TIME which advertises its online
version for August 19-24, featuring a photo essay of the
Sierra  Student Coalition on a recent preservation project.
