The Sierra Club Leopold Group Sponsors Presentation: "Whatšs at Stake with Livestock Farming: a Farmeršs View" Featured Speaker, Chris Petersen, Hog Farmer and Vice President of Iowa Farmers Union The Leopold Group, which serves eight counties in Southeast Iowa, is pleased to announce a lively and enlightening evening with hog farmer and activist, Chris Petersen, of Clear Lake, Iowa. Mr. Petersen knows first hand how large corporations are threatening the tradition of family farming. His talk will point out the huge differences between large-scale livestock production and responsible family farm practices. The presentation will begin Thursday, September 26 at 7:45, in Friendship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 400 N. Elm, New London, Iowa. In addition, Mr. Petersen will show a short documentary entitled "As We Sow" which interviews farmers across the state that have been affected by the influx of corporate agriculture. Mr. Petersen has devoted his life to fighting corporate farming. He says, "I eat, breathe and sleep these issues." He is well known for spearheading a "60 Minutes" production called "the voice of the Family Farmer" in April 2000, in which it was revealed that the Farm Bureau no longer represented the family farmer. He has appeared on National Public TV, the British Broadcasting Network, ARD German National TV. Hešs been in Time magazine, National Journal and other national publications. In addition he is a consultant for G.R.A.C.E. (Global Resource Action Center for the Environment) concerning factory farm issues. There will be time for questions and answers and Patrick Bosold of the Leopold Group will give an update on the progress of county moratoriums. ###
