The Iowa Sierra State Chapter Annual Dinner is less than a month away - please order your tickets now! http://iowa.sierraclub.org/2002awdinner.html ---------------------------- This year's dinner will feature an excellent menu of locally grown and organic food prepared by chefs from three outstanding Iowa City restaurants; The Red Avocado, Devotay & Adagio - and guest speaker Ronnie Cummins, National Director of the Organic Consumers Association. Please join us for our annual Iowa Chapter Sierra Awards ceremony, a Silent Auction fundraiser, local food & farmer educational displays - and great environmental activist comraderie! Our event will be held on Saturday, October 12th, in Iowa City at the Wesley Center Foundation,120 N. Dubuque St., (near downtown). Festivities begin at 6 pm. - ticket ordering, guest speaker & silent auction information is below. RED AVOCADO - http://www.theredavocado.com The Red Avocado Chefs, Derek Roller & Dave Burt, use all vegetarian organic ingredients, support local farmers and organizations, grow their own specialty produce, re-use, recycle and compost their restaurant wastes, and actively participate in their community. DEVOTAY - http://www.devotay.com Devotay & Adagio are a small, locally owned, family operations. They know how important it is to support the community around them. Chef Kurt Friese has made "buying local" a priority from the start and their menu often lists the Iowa producers that supply the ingredients for their specialty dishes. In September of 2001, Devotay had a little sister, Adagio. Chef Kurt went to cook there, and his long time Sous Chef, Rick Woodard, became Executive Chef at Devotay. Today Devotay features a full menu, based on the flavors of the Mediterranean, with occasional influences from other ethnic cuisines. RONNIE CUMMINS, National Director of the Organic Consumers Association - http://www.organicconsumers.org, editor of the electronic newsletter BioDemocracy News and author of "Genetically Engineered Food: A Self-Defense Guide for Consumers" will be our lively & charismatic guest speaker, who will travel from Minnesota to enjoy an Iowa-grown harvest dinner with us this coming October. His book will be available for purchase and signing to benefit our State Sierra Chapter. A large and interesting variety of donated Silent Auction items will be displayed for your perusal and bidding before and during the event, along with displays & educational materials featuring our local Iowan food farmers, growers and producers.
