Hello, I am the chair of the Sierra Club Sustainable Consumption Committee (SCC), which has been working for a couple of years, under the Sustainable Planet Strategy Team (SPST). Our aim is to provide information on the ways that individual and collective consumption are part of the environmental problems which the Sierra Club wants to address and to encourage club leaders, activists, and members to work for more sustainable kinds and levels of consumption, as a crucial part of the Sierra Club's goal of protecting and preserving our natural areas and resources. To achieve these goals, we work at local, chapter, and national levels. Some of the specific projects in which we've been involved have included work with local consumption committees; presentations at local and chapter meetings; creation of a newsletter, fact sheets, report, and other materials; and discussions with national campaign volunteers and staff about ways we can collaborate. We hope to increase our activity level, especially at the national level, in the coming months. In order to accomplish this, we want to communicate more effectively with national leaders, including members of the CGC. We would like to know what you think about the relationship between consumption and environmental problems, which consumption-related issues you think we should focus on, which campaigns and programs you would like to see addressing consumption issues, and the strategies and projects you think will be most effective in achieving our goals. Please visit our website, which includes fact sheets, links, and other information. The website is www.sierraclub.org/sustainable_consumption. We also have print copies available of fact sheets, reports, and other materials. Our members are Anna Peterson (FL) (chair), Kevin Finney (CA), Tom Ransburg (IN), Kristin Reed (CA), and Gordon Labedz (CA). We are currently seeking two new members, since Tom Ransburg is stepping down. Liaisons are Carol Holst (Seeds ofSimplicity; CA); David Tilford (Washington D.C., Center for a New AmericanDream); Alex Veitch (Global Warming/Energy staff; D.C.); Todd Larsen (Coop America, D.C.); and Faith Teitelbaum (SPST; Virginia) Thanks for your time. We hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Anna Peterson _____________ Anna Peterson Department of Religion 107 Anderson Hall University of Florida Gainesville, FL 32611-7410 tel. 352/392-1625 fax 352/392-7395 forwarded by Erin E.
