The Congress we swear in next January could be much stronger if you vote
November
5 for candidates who embrace green values rather than greenbacks. Since
January 2001, the president and his energy industry-friendly appointees have
trashed the environment through dozens of actions. They have abandoned a
campaign promise to regulate carbon dioxide emissions, proposed reversing a
prohibition on roadbuilding in 58.5 million acres of national forests,
changed the rules to make it legal for coal mining companies to fill in
streams with dirt and rock blasted from mountain tops, canceled a looming
deadline for carmakers to develop prototypes for high-mileage cars, rolled
back safeguards for storing nuclear waste, proposed shifting Superfund
hazardous-waste cleanup costs from polluters to taxpayers, blocked a program
to stem the discharge of raw sewage into America's waters, undermined
protections for national parks and national monuments, and tried to use
wildfires as a smokescreen for lawless logging in our national forests.

So if you are at all concerned about the future for your children and
grandchildren, vote for candidates who share your concerns about clean air,
clean water, wilderness preservation, and energy conservation. Be sure to
vote Tuesday, and if you can, take your children with you.
